without a doubt it is one of the strongest pieces so far to come out of the mind of matt star. morphology, the title track is a trip that is leading us directly into the center of the dancefloor. it is characterized by its enormous dynamic, a deep & dirty roughness that comes up alongside an unstoppable kind of a mesmerizing groove - this one, for sure, is going to be loved by all fans of the usual suspects that are playing in the global champions league of modern high quality techno music. mttstr on the flip side seem to be building up a bit more subtle. both of them show matts talent for patiently modulating sounds creating almost extraterrestrial fluid grooves. both sides of the record are bringing an overall energy containing several well placed breakdowns and carefully crafted moments of high tension before matt is letting things kick back into full force again.

first on decks.de !! lust und freude musik s fifth release arrives from tufan demir of istanbul, who has been making music in various genres under different monikers for some time now. this ep bears tufan s own name and contains tracks of a more personal nature. despite the overall after-hour feel of the toy harmonics, it also draws heavily from modern house music elements. four-to-the-floor pattern of the tracks do not necessarily mean that they are pure house as they encompass an undeniable ambient vein. most of the percussive elements featured here have been recorded by tufan, extracting sounds diligently from a toy archive that includes pieces ranging from action figures to music boxes. the opening number idiot term tricks you with its mighty kicks and hypnotic percussions only to draw you into a dreamy atmosphere made up of pads and intricate structuring. quiet days in a room starts off with a simple sequence and builds into a melodic orgy of bells and synth sounds. the most minimalist of all, back to fine offers the greatest emotional potential - despite its unmistakable dance footing, the track transcends electronic dance formulas thanks to its ingenious instrumentation.

tiefenschoen as an lp is a complete whirlwind having a raw and dirty feel to it, albeit without losing focus on the original and well-known jean f. cochois sound. this is an extremely strong club album with a powerful recognition value – not only musically, but also visually thanks to its album cover. it stands out as it has an overall concept and, throughout it, a sense of continuity from beginning to end.

wonderful release by kyle hall on his new detroit based label wild oats. masterpiece 4 track ep, each track divine and unique in its own way. hot jazzy kyle hall fashioned deephouse that can serve a lounge and at the same time bang even harder on a dancefloor. kyle halls experimentalist off beat antics meets smooth jazz would be a way to describe the sound. poly rhythms everywhere but at the same time a cohesive groovy soulful feel. overall this ep is a must buy for anyone who is for the future of the electronic music genre and enjoys quality.

laying low in the cut after the much lauded >recession vol.1< mix album and his wrily-titled futuristic crossover >euro dance hit<, caravan label head honcho julian smith aka october returns from deep studio retreat with possibly his best, certainly most forward thinking dance floor record to date. as always october takes a big slice of his inspiration from the detroit techno sound of the 80s and early 90s which is clearly evident on the second cut on this plate in particular. however you simply cannot ignore his perhaps more euro-centric dub tendencies and broken-beat rhythm principles that always inform his overall composition and production ethos.

on january 1st 2010, the first single released by a new vinyl label kanu kanu will appear in the shops worldwide. the aim of the label, run by a producer hatti vatti (mindset recordings), is to promote interesting and original artists from the world of dub-tech, minimal dubstep / ukg. the material for the single catalogued as number 001 was created by the musicians from three countries: echo_tm from poland, echo ranks from great britain and biodub from germany. the person responsible for the overall conception is hatti vatti from poland, currently living in cairo, egypt. the result of this collaboration is a fusion of meditative bass, dub, dub-tech, minimal and one of the most interesting voices of contemporary reggae. the record is released in a very limited edition (300 copies) and it is pressed on a beautiful blue vinyl!

chantals tracks are tinged with a hazy, nocturnal sadness, a touch of sexy, decadent disco glamour and a retro palette of sounds that reminds the listener of the synthesised soundtracks to john carpenters horror films. diegors & the dons (aka m. aguayo) tracks are testimonies to this fact. built simply but well, in the comeme style for maximum dancefloor power. the overall strangeness plus the syncopated melodies are distinctly latin and couldnt have come from any other label. cÓmeme is hot right now and this is definitely the best record they have done so far

this new collaboration between two of cadenzas finest talents makes its official debut on mobilee with black shoes, a cut that pops, crackles, and snaps like youd never believe. dance floor ready yet unwilling to sacrifice an explicit focus on the details, black shoes pulsates with bass while suggesting a kind of lightness as whispered and fragmented voices hiss and murmur in the background. the melodics, which give off the feel of being in constant flux, provide a nice contrast to the intensely regularized bass drum while simultaneously meshing with the popping percussion that guide the track along its course. breakdowns filled with the sounds of static and 8-bit provide a nice experimental touch to this track that works equally well as a late-night romp as it does on the headphones. b-side speech also gives off a stuttered feel but is even more blippy and fragmented than its counterpart while migrating towards a more jacking vibe. brito and toro compliment this fractured sound with extensive use of vocal samples—both spoken and sung—that, while incomprehensible, lock in seamlessly with the overall feel of the track. melody here references both vintage sounds and traditional minimalism with the end result being a fusion of the two that is truly extraordinary.

the label is a platform for the best funky techno outings around and features a broad range of well-known producers. volume 5 welcomes a new artist to the label and a very famous producer on the remix.

lithuanian producer paulius lincius (aka moon disco) presents his first vinyl release on the respected control tower label, run by the dexorcist & radioactive man, and shows a subtlety and deftness of touch that many more experienced producers would envy. treading the path of classic electro can be a dangerous game if the sounds arent just so, but fortunately paulius has been doing his homework and keeps it simple and clean. radioactive man offers up a remix that roughens things up a little bit and throws some datasette-esque sounds into the equation, but still keeps pretty close to the traditional electro blueprint. overall a strong release for those that prefer their beats and bass with a slightly nostalgic edge...

>not my cat< is a brooding fusion of bubbling acid, deep bass tones and low-down jacking rhythms that treads a line between early doors groover and late night mood setter. >demons among us< is exactly the sort of cinematic-style club production that will resonate with fans of charlies work. forging together multi-textured layers of precision crafted sonics, the overall vibe is one of minimized, robotic-funk that provides the foundations for a killer shimmering melody to do its joyous damage.

fine arranged melodies from multiple sound sources, as stated in his biography, are the building blocks of which daniel mehlhart considers to be the essence of good music. putting what he preaches into practice has affirmed the 22-year-old swiss born, frankfurt am main resident, as one of the most exciting new talents in the underground tech-house movement. his most acclaimed release was the harp-tinged origami, released last summer on kindisch, which catapulted him into the record bags and charts of a slew of seasoned djs during the end of last summer. >scharade< is an example of young daniel sticking to what he does best, mixing and blending techno. atmospheres and sonic images while still animating an organic and natural vibe over the tracks. liberal amounts of percussion and a middle eastern or asian vocal dramatically pitched this tune beyond recognition watermark with a style and a vibe that he has helped to advance. the house roots of >distracted conscience< are present right from the onset. using a double pump kick to inject a pinch more of energy into the already flourishing habitat of off-kilter and spooky sound effects. so many in fact it is easy to see how he came up with the name, >distracted conscience<, as there are more effects floating around in this track than thoughts in the head of an 8-year-old who forgot his daily dose of ritalin. he turns to an ethnic vocal on >alura< again, but keeping the overall mood of this outing a bit deeper. he pulls out even more percussion instruments including extra shakers, toms and bongos all marching along harmoniously. this is a head down, hands-up, side-to-side bopper that just keeps quietly elevating as subtle elements are added and subtracted throughout the duration of the tune. a coherent composition and dj tool all in one. although this is his second release there are no signs of a sophomore slump anywhere in site, as daniel mehlharts talent lies in his unique, but subtle ability to gel different eleme

wandering the mojuba sublabel welcomes a new project named tyche for its 2nd journey. like the first jc freaks record these two tracks on two paths sound fresh but classic once again! overall both tunes have a very hypnotic feel, which is capable of making your body move, although the approach of the tracks are diametral … but you better take a listen on your own

promise land is a solid deep soulful groove created by koyla. the demo floated around the bombay itunes player for a few of weeks, we needed someone to tear this track up. we tried a couple of options it wasnt working this groove needed something killer. thats were good friend jrod indigo come into play, san fran neo soul singer decides to come into lovely vancouver to hang for a while at bombay studio hq, and thats were the story starts for this track. jrod writes and lays down his song and creates the promise land over koylas ripping hooks and players. everyone is diggin the direction, timmy comes in and throws in some backups, inhouse producers sean dimitrie and nav take all the parts and put together a b side. the awaaz mix takes the track into a late night bumping funky direction with ambient tripped out textures and hard detroit style chords. overall this is a classic style ep with a real organic disco avour, that will never die for us. koyla and jrod are true musicians and deserve the fullest respect in this genre.

yre-002 brings you an ep by detroits house legend rick wade (of harmonie park fame), who delivers true deep house cuts in its most authentic form. wade, who has been producing the slickest detroit house tunes for ages, sure knows how to game play. all four tracks on the >night of the living deep ep< bursting with talent to create the sweetest harmonies you can find, mixed with catchy basslines and an overall strong warm groove

dj fex is an accomplished produced and dj. having released tracks on such labels as serial, brique rouge, hypnotic, dessous, visitor, gourmet or systematic, his reputation is not to be done. as a dj, fex is a resident at mix club in paris and resident of the famous parties kings.fex gives us one of his best work so far, totally in the vein of what he does on his own label robotronic. acid forever is a moody yet obsessive track with a strong melody. its not particulary acid sounding but the vibe is here and it stays forever! on the remix tip, man of the moment tommy four seven, always on top form when it comes to make people dance and mark o’sullivan, half of dk7 with jesper dahlbäck and half of mark & john with his cousin john, member of the swedish mafia, who has recently remixed mike monday and had a release on plastic city lately. overall a strong package of mixes again

mr. cubanix brings it down laid back and smooth on hott steppa and breakthrough. nice bassline and rhodes combinations keep the overall sound quite loungey and upscale. it is on gosando however, that things get cookin with its harder tribal drums and oh so dark latin pianos. if you like quentin harris, jon cutler, the soulfuric sound, and jask, then this might be your speed.

first techno output by this collaboration between mario masullo, already known for his records on defrag and for his collaboration with g man, and maurizio martusciello, one of the pioneer and key figure in the italian electronic scene. woy out lines is a melting pot between different styles with an ear to the past and an eye on the future. on the a side a stylish minimal tune that present a solid, sophisticated groove with 303 pattern interaction and a melancholic and touching pad that give to this track a special taste that reject the abused micro techno trend. on the flip side dogon, here the 303 pattern is the body and the front of the track, the bass line is mind blowing and evolves floating during the whole arrangement, tribal voices, percussions and distorted synths to complete this energetic tune. m203 is a futuristic detroish track where the machines meet the softwares techniques to create an hybrid sound, the bass line is preminent but is well mixed with a lot of small details and concrete sounds. overall woy out lines is an eclectic and tasteful record

no other than chilean sunnyboy and groove scientist luciano is taking us on the a-side on a long ride of lush but infectious minimalism. eleven minutes strong, luciano does what he does best and unfolds a continuous flow of subtle rhythmic changes, melodies and field recordings to create an overall hypnotic feel that sucks you in right from the start. think his last ep on cadenza with thomas melchior and add an eerie feel to it. on the flip side the enigmatic duo eat (both integrat parts of the diamonds and pearls family) steps up for some serious dancefloor destruction. what starts off as a pulsating acidic techno-monster that creeps up from the depths of a pile of analog synthesizers, turns into a breakbeat chopping electro-jam that will leave you behind with bleeding ears and thumping hearts, before the track jumps right back to techno peaktime.

re-issued again, with new liner notes. a wonderful, rare record wrapped in a mysterious yet playful ambiance. or maybe it s just the impression that the japanese language often gives me. suiren is an odd jazz-fusion-wave tune that sounds like its boiling, waiting to burst but somehow manages to stay in control. like the nervous tick of a leg fidgeting under the table of a restaurant on a first date. yasuaki shimizu is a japanese composer, producer and saxophone player born in 1954. he worked with ryuchi sakimoto on certain arrangements, with the south korean artist nam june paik on art+sound installation pieces and even dj towa tei (of deee-lite fame). suiren was released in 1981 and is the opening title on the sought-after kakashi album and is my personal favorite on this overall brilliant record. it weaves behind new wave, jazz, fusion, ambient and experimental music.

children are laughing and playing in the back, a baby screams happily: handsome field recordings welcome the listener to the final chapter of fred pÕs fp-oner trilogy for mule musiq. the opening tune is called smiles, so children s laughter fit the mode. the idea is that smiles and cries are natural for children and as they grow to adulthood the reality becomes more, therefore the duality of life itself is obvious in the mood of the song. the new york city native that is working on his very own music for almost 20 years explains about the beginning of his new album that features eleven tunes for deep meditative club use and beyond. it brings the listener house music full of cosmic realities, odd jazzing moments, japanese spoken word pop, synth spheres for ambient use and an overall outer-national atmosphere, that handsomely dances between roughness and subtle tuned in deepness.

mikkel metal was the first artist on echocord, and the main reason why the label was started back then. after many many releases we are very happy and proud that he now returns with a full lenght album. more than 7 years after his last long-player album mikkel metal returns with a new album for echocord. bypassing dub-techno as the starting point, this is music clearly consistent with earlier output. we are presented with 10 tracks that all evolve with around a melancholic melodic framework. while there is clearly a nod to detroit and another to dub- techno, the overall impression is consistently and unmistakably the sound of mikkel metal. a hypnotic, very enjoyable and thorough return from the danish artist.
